Calling Volunteer Leaders for
The Mount Players Youth Theatre in 2022/23
The Mount Players Youth Theatre (MPYT) is a vibrant community theatre program designed for children and young adults, aged from 10 to 19 years old and is run entirely by volunteers. The MPYT has been an active adjunct to The Mount Players since 2005 and provides opportunities for the young participants to learn a wide range of onstage and offstage theatrical skills and knowledge. All activities are based in the charming Mountview Theatre, located in Macedon.
With many of the current, long-standing MPYT leadership group indicating their unavailability to be involved next year due to other commitments, The Mount Players is now seeking interest from enthusiastic volunteers for 2022.
MPYT workshops are run weekly during school terms on Monday and Wednesday evenings and are separated into the following groupings: (Note: a minimum of two leaders are assigned to each group.)
-
Group A: 10-12 years - Monday (6:30-8.00 pm)
-
Group B: 13-15 years - Wednesday (6:15-7.45 pm)
-
Group C: 16-19 years - Wednesday (8:00-9:30 pm)
-
An end-of-year production is performed each year, usually bringing the different age groups together to perform one or two full-length productions. Rehearsals for these productions typically begin in third term. A small fee ($140 per child in 2021) is charged to members which covers public liability, production costs, and theatre running costs.
We are looking for experienced and committed leaders who would be willing to:
-
On-site teach at the Mountview Theatre (1.5 hours/week)
-
Open the theatre before workshops and supervise member drop-offs (0.5 hours/week)
-
Supervise pick-ups after workshops, tidy, and close the theatre (0.5 hours/week)
-
Work with other group leaders in the preparation of plans and materials for workshops and end of year productions (4 hours/week)
-
Monitor and respond to parent/guardian email communications.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All Youth Leaders must have a Working With Children Card and also must have proof of Covid-19 double vaccination. This is in line with government requirements for educational institutions.
Anyone interested in being involved should contact:

The Mount Players Youth Theatre provides an engaging environment for students in the Macedon Ranges to learn new skills, make new friends and perform on stage.
Workshops are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings during the school terms.
We offer places for youth aged 10+ spread across three age brackets:
- Group A (ages 10-12) Monday evenings, 6.30 - 8.00pm
- Group B (ages 13-15) Wednesday evenings, 6.15 - 7.45pm
- Group C (ages 16+) Wednesday evenings 8.00 - 9.30pm
- All workshops take place at the Mountview Theatre, 56 Smith Street, Macedon, next to Jubilee Hall.
The workshops focus on stage acting, but include script writing, make-up & costumes, backstage etiquette, and for the older group, set design and construction.
We occasionally invite guest leaders for the night, who are people with a lot of experience in a particular area of theatre. These people have often been involved with The Mount Players for many years and share their expertise.
Opportunities also arise for youth members to be involved in the major productions at the theatre, both on and off stage. Previous examples include roles on TMP's The Sound of Music, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and The Offshore Island. Several MPYT members have also gone on to play lead roles in theatre productions as adults both at TMP and other theatres.
The MPYT is an exceptional way to boost your self-confidence and open yourself up to new experiences.
